Book Review ~ Mich Turner’s Cake School

Mich Turner’s Cake School

I'd say the title 'Cake School' matches the content of the novel. There are image detailed guides on several of the recipes including testing if a cake is baked, graphics showing the creaming process, with increased pictures showing what can make a mistake should you overbake, underbake, use the improper flour and what goes on in case your oven is set at the wrong temperature.

You'll find lessons on how best to skim coat Ganache pouring, a cake, making Glace Icing Italian Meringues and Tutorials on decorations like making amazing butterfly run outs. I must possess a go at a while.

See below. I used mixed chopped nuts rather than the hazel nuts that were recommended. This All in One Single system worked wonderfully with marbles of Chocolate and Vanilla sponge topped with a Coffee Icing.

For anybody thinking of making their very own wedding cake, you'll find lots of single tier and three tier recipes to select from, with tutorials on hand moulding. Plus recipes for smaller cakes and biscuits to make as favours. There's a stunning 3 tiered 'Gilded Christmas Cake' includes and that covers several of the tutorials once you reach that phase of the book, which you have already discovered.

Below are only a few of the Tutorials
  • Piping
  • Monochrome Lace
  • Vertical Lines
  • Brush Embroidery
  • Hand Lettering
  • Hand Moulding
